August is Children’s Eye Health & Safety Month! π
With school approaching now is the best time to schedule a comprehensive eye exam for your child. Keep in mind that by the age of 5, your child should have a thorough optometric eye examination. The future of their sight is in your hands.
#Pediatrician #CCCG
The first day of school will be here shortly!βοΈπ
Children thrive on a routine, now is the best time to reimplement school sleep schedules! The amount of sleep your child needs will vary by age, activity levels, and individual needs.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) provides helpful guidelines on how much sleep children should receive at different stages of their development. Children ages 3-5 require 10-13 hours of sleep. Children ages 6-12 require 9-12 hours of sleep. While teenagers ages 13-18 require 8-10 hours of sleep.
In the weeks leading up to going back to school get your kiddos readjusted to a school routine for a smoother transition from summer!
#Pediatrician #CCCG
As the roundabout construction continues at the intersection of Farris Road and College Ave, our Farris Road entrance will be closed until August 18. The area in red is closed and the area in green is open.
Please drive carefully while entering and exiting our parking lot as we temporarily have one entrance/exit!
#Pediatrician #CCCG
Quick reminder to keep your kiddos hydrated while enjoying summer activities! βοΈ
It is recommended that children ages 4-8 need 5 cups of water a day while children ages 9+ need 7-8 cups of water daily. Athletic children or children who are sweating while playing outside will need more water. Make sure your kiddos have a water bottle handy and that they are drinking water regularly!
#Pediatrician #CCCG
The city of Conway will be constructing a roundabout at the intersection of Farris Road and College Ave. Expect construction around the intersection.
For today and the next few days our Farris Road entrance (and southbound on Farris road) is closed due to construction. The area in red is closed and the area in blue is open.
Please drive carefully while entering and exiting our parking lot given we have one entrance/exit (temporarily).
“Kids Care” is a phone service staffed by pediatric nurses at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Ending National Nurses Month we would like to recognize, Summer!
She has been a nurse for 10 years and received her education from Baptist Health. Summer is the Conway location assistant nurse manager, but she also doubles as Dr. Killingsworth’s nurse! On the weekends she spends time traveling to watch her son Brody play football or baseball!
#Pediatrician #CCCG
Don’t let a sunburn affect your child’s outdoor fun! βοΈ
As the weather is getting warmer & the kiddos are outside it is important to apply & reapply sunscreen. Children over the age of 6 months should be protected with a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher!
Tip: Remember to allow sunscreen the time to fully absorb, usually 15 minutes!! Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and especially after swimming or drying off with a towel.
Children younger than 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight. If protective clothing and shade are not available, use sunscreen on small areas of the body, such as the face.
#Pediatrician #CCCG
For week three of National Nurses Month we’d like to recognize, Haleigh!
She has been working as a nurse for two years and received her education from Baptist Health! She is Mrs. Shauna Tankersley’s sidekick but most of all she is passionate about taking care of our kiddos! On the weekends you will catch her spending time with her friends & family, trail riding, or watching her son play baseball!
#Pediatrician #CCCG

Jennifer has been a nurse for two years and received her education at UCA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology & Bachelor of Science in Nursing, BSN-RN. When she’s not at work you can guarantee she will be spending time outdoors with her precious pup!!
#Pediatrician #CCCG
Did you know The CCC&G has an active patient portal available for your convenience? π²
Those who have monthly prescriptions can refill their medications through the portal. You can also schedule appointments, send messages or questions to your provider’s team, view clinic notes, lab results and your child’s growth chart.
If your child does not have an active portal account, you can request a link by calling the clinic. From there instructions will be texted or emailed to you.

Don’t risk losing Medicaid coverage! Medicaid renewal letters are being mailed out soon. Check your mail often and look π for any mail from the AR Department of Human Services.
It is crucial that your address & contact information are up to date with AR Medicaid. Call the Renew AR Hotline at 844-872-2660 to ensure your information is up to date.
The letter will tell you if you need to complete a renewal form to see if you still qualify. Fill it out & return it to AR Medicaid to avoid losing coverage on April 1.

Our Greenbrier location was repainted last week and is looking great! For our Conway location we will be under going some (much needed) renovations for the next few months (needs a little more than just a fresh coat of paint π)! Fortunately the clinic is large enough that we will continue to be up and running as usual and any areas being renovated will be blocked off.
We are looking forward to a fresh new look!
School is out and summer vacation and fun in the sun is in! It's easy to forget skin protection from the sun when everyone is having a good time, so plan ahead to make sure the kids don't have a nasty sunburn at the end of the day! Check out our latest post for tips on how to keep your family's skin safe!

With the current COVID rates and approaching warm weather our Conway location is pleased to re-open our waiting rooms! We will, of course, continue monitoring CDC recommendations and severity of COVID cases.
You may, of course, choose to remain in your car instead of sitting in the waiting room. In this case call after arriving at the clinic to check in. Also, if you have known exposure to COVID our front staff will ask that you wait in your car.
Our waiting rooms will be divided between well and sick and our front staff will direct you where you need to go.
We do request that all of our parents and older children wear a mask while inside the clinic. And remember that we do have a newborn room for our new babies!
Preparing the house for your new baby? Make sure you secure furniture (especially if top heavy or tipsy) against the wall with screws or furniture straps to keep it (or anything on top of it) from falling on your baby!
Remember to prepare well in advance! Babies get big fast!

Gracias, Maria! Te β€οΈ mucho!
Maria Casas is retiring today from The Children's Clinic. She has been an outstanding employee for more than 15 years as well as a great friend to her co-workers. Maria will be missed by all! We wish her well in her next stage in life and thank her for her dedication, devotion, and her kindness to all who are fortunate to know her!
Yesterday Arkansas adopted the new CDC guidelines for people exposed to COVID-19. The update allows for two additional options for quarantine. For maximum caution, 14 days is still recommended. However, now someone who has been exposed and has no COVID-related symptoms can end their quarantine after 10 days with no test or 7 days if they have a negative test. Note: this test specifically needs to be a send-off PCR test (rapid tests don't count) and it must be done on day 5 of quarantine!
Our blog post outlining various COVID scenarios has been updated with this information:
https://www.thechildrenscliniccg.com/making-sense-of-covid-19-quarantine-guidelines
At The Children's Clinic, it is important to us that we are up-to-date with the latest CDC and Ark Dept of Health recommendations so we can provide the best advice and guidance to the families we serve!
If you or your child has been exposed to COVID-19 please give our Conway office (501-327-6000) or our Greenbrier office (501-679-6796) a call. Our friendly staff will get you connected to one of our pediatric trained and experienced providers who will help determine the best and safest course of action. If a rapid test is needed, we can run these at either location and it only takes a few minutes to know if you are positive. However, a 2nd test is needed to confirm a negative test (and you still need to quarantine as noted above).
The Children's Clinic of Conway and Greenbrier
Thanksgiving is around the corner! Unfortunately, Arkansas is experiencing record number COVID-19 cases and many hospitals are very near full capacity! Given this, the CDC and the AAP have several recommendations, which we've summarized on our most recent website post: https://www.thechildrenscliniccg.com/celebrating-thanksgiving-during-a-pandemic
Stay safe and keep wearing your mask when out in public!
The Children's Clinic
For 2019, there were 219 unintended shootings involving children in the US. If you or family and friends have guns in your home, make sure you are following all safety recommendations! Healthychildren has an excellent review article:
https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-home/Pages/Handguns-in-the-Home.aspx
Influenza vaccine is now available at The Children's Clinic for both of our locations! To schedule an appointment for your child to receive the flu vaccine, call (501) 327-6000 for Conway and (501) 679-6796 for Greenbrier. To find out why it is important to get a flu vaccine this season, please see our recent blog post:
https://www.thechildrenscliniccg.com/news
Already have an appointment scheduled? We'll ask you if you would like to receive the flu vaccine during the visit. If we forget, feel free to ask - we'd hate to miss an opportunity to protect your child and your family from the flu!
Stay tuned for instructions on how to self-schedule a Saturday flu vaccine appointment!

Congratulations to Kimberly Pryor from Bigelow and Kim Penn, science teacher at Conway High School - you two are our winners this year!
And congratulations to our winning Greenbrier teacher - your name was drawn last week.
Thank you to all of our teachers for your continued excellence and hard work!
This is a reminder that July 20th (Monday), per executive order from the Governor, Arkansans will be required to where a face mask while outside the home (please see the Governor's announcement for details and exceptions).
At The Children's Clinic we require that all individuals over the age of 10 wear a face mask or covering (for younger children over the age of 2 we do encourage it as well). As medical face masks are still in very short supply, we are unable to provide a mask for people arriving for appointments. Cotton covers (for example bandanna or a T-Shirt) can be used as your face covering if you do not have a face mask.
We also continue to limit the number of people who can enter the building per patient.
Stay safe everyone!
The Children's Clinic of Conway and Greenbrier
Start thinking about scheduling your child's check up or sports physical soon. This summer, especially the end of the summer, will be busier than usual! We're scheduling our check-ups in the morning and asking our families to wait in the car to make sure the clinic is safe for these important visits!
Call our Conway office (501-327-6000) or our Greenbrier office (501-679-6796) to schedule ahead of time. Don't worry, we'll send you an appointment reminder!
Congratulations to Hailey for completing the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" challenge! That is quite an accomplishment!
Thank you to Mary Spears Polk and the Faulkner County Library Children's Department (https://fcl.org/departments/kids/). The Faulkner County Library is truly a blessing for all of us!

Juice can certainly be a "special treat", but make sure he or she is mostly drinking milk or water. Juice should be limited to 1/2 cup for 1-3 year olds, 3/4 cup for 4-8 years olds, and 1 cup for older children. Avoid giving juice in a sippy cup that may be "sipped" on all day as the constant exposure to sugar can damage your child's teeth. And make sure their teeth are brushed before bedtime!
